Manufacturer's instructions for installing the power steering gear

Replace the power steering pressure and return lines when replacing the rack and pinion steering gear. Power steering hoses can degrade internally and cause contamination in the power steering system, which can damage the new steering gear
Before installation, flush the system completely with an original equipment approved power steering fluid (the correct type of fluid is noted on the reservoir cap or in your owner's manual). Flushing the system is critical to prevent system contamination and failure.
Consider installing a power steering filter in the power steering return line to prevent system contamination and extend the life of the power steering components (sold separately).
Bleed the system to prevent noise and extend the service life of the steering components.
